Christmas tree recycling - North West London

Search for your borough below so you know exactly what to do when the time comes to recycle your Christmas tree in January.

Brent

You can recycle your Christmas tree by taking it to the Reuse and Recycling Centre, where it will be recycled and turned into compost.

If you can't take it there, you can put your Christmas tree in your organics wheeled bin, but please make sure it fits fully inside when the lid is closed or it will not be collected.

You could also compost the tree yourself.

The Reuse and Recycling Centre is at Abbey Road, London, NW10 7TJ.

The centre is open seven days a week from 8am to 4pm, but it will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Please remember the centre only takes household waste and has a strict no van policy.

Ealing

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees with their garden waste or at some of the borough’s parks and open spaces this January. A full list of these locations will be available on the council website.

The council's re-use and recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Normal opening hours (8am–4pm) apply on all other days over the Christmas and New Year period. These centres are located at Stirling Road, Acton, Gordon Road, Southall and Greenford Road, Greenford. Please note that the weighbridge at the Greenford centre closes at 3.30pm.

Hammersmith & Fulham

Last Christmas you helped us recycle 50 tonnes of Christmas trees that would have otherwise been expensively disposed of. Christmas trees will be composted and put to good use rather than going to waste.

If you have your recycling and rubbish collected in sacks from outside your home, leave your tree in your front garden or outside your property where it is clearly visible from the street and does not cause an obstruction on the pavement, by 12pm on your normal rubbish and recycling collection day from Monday 2 to Friday 13 January. Trees will be collected in the afternoon, not at the same time as your bags. Please remember to remove decorations.

There are also designated collection points where you can take your trees. These include:

  • New Kings Road (on edge of Eel Brook Common)
  • Fulham Palace Road Cemetery (opposite Queensmill Road)
  • Normand Park (opposite Lillie Road entrance)
  • Loris Road Community Gardens
  • Ravenscourt Park (by the football pitch)
  • Wormwood Scrubs Car Park (off Scrubs Lane)

Harrow

Harrow residents can cut up their real Christmas tree and place it in their Brown (organic waste) bin and it will be taken with the weekly collection or it can be taken to the Civic Amenities site on Forward Drive. Please remove all decorations and note that plastic trees are not accepted in the Brown bin.

Hillingdon

Christmas trees can be recycled via the kerbside recycling service for compostable garden wastes. Make sure all decorations have been removed and then put the tree out with your garden waste on the next scheduled collection.

Hounslow

Don’t forget, you can recycle your real Christmas tree during January. Christmas trees can be placed out for recycling on your garden waste collection week during this month only. If you live in a flat, you can have your Christmas trees collected. Email recycling@hounslow.gov.uk or contact us on 020 8583 5555 in January to book a collection.

Alternatively, Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following sites from 2-15 January from 8am-3pm. The trees will be chipped and used as mulch in the council’s parks.

  • Gunnersbury Park - main car park, Popes Lane Gunnersbury
  • Hounslow Heath - car park, Staines Road (next to the visitor centre)
  • Hanworth Air Park - car park area, entrance on Hanworth Road, Hanworth

Christmas trees can also be taken to Space Waye Reuse and Recycling Centre at any time after the Christmas period during normal opening hours.

Kensington & Chelsea

From 3 - 16 January the Council will collect unwanted Christmas trees for composting. See www.rbkc.gov.uk/christmastrees for details. You can also take your Christmas tree to the following collection points between the dates given above. Please remove decorations and pots.
