Christmas tree recycling - South East London
Search for your borough below so you know exactly what to do when the time comes to recycle your Christmas tree in January.
Residents can bring their real Christmas trees to either of the two reuse and recycling centres at Thames Road, Crayford DA1 5QJ and Maidstone Road, Foots Cray DA14 5HS - or leave them next to their brown bins (not inside them) for a kerbside collection. Please remember to:
• Remove any decorations before placing your tree out for collection
• Cut your tree in half if it is bigger than your brown bin
• Put the brown bin out next to the tree, even if it is empty, so the crews know to stop at your property
Please note: The Christmas tree collection scheme is only for properties which have a kerbside brown bin collection. Other properties should bring their trees to one of our two reuse and recycling centres.
We provide a free Christmas tree recycling service for all our residents at temporary sites around the borough. Please note that Christmas trees must not have soil, pots or decorations attached. You can also bring along other green garden waste with your Christmas tree.
Temporary recycling centres for Christmas trees and green garden waste are at:
- Beckenham, Unicorn Primary School (Creswell Drive off South Eden Park Road)
- Biggin Hill, Charles Darwin School (Jail Lane)
- Bromley, Norman Park (Hook Farm Road entrance off Bromley Common, A21)
- Green Street Green, Salt Depot (Shire Lane 'spur', off Sevenoaks Road)
- St Paul's Cray, Cotmandene Crescent car park (off Chipperfield Road)
The service operates on
Saturday 7 January 2012: 11am - 4pm

Green garden waste must not be left outside operating times. Sites will be closely monitored and all fly-tippers will be prosecuted.

Greenwich Council will recycle your real Christmas tree free of charge as part of your weekly collection. If you wish us to collect your tree then simply removal all decorations and pot and place your tree at the front of your property where it can easily be seen by the green top collection team.
Your tree will be taken on your normal collection day so make sure it is put out with your bin before 6.00 am. If you don’t have a green top bin you can still leave your tree at the front of your property, there is no need to telephone for a special collection service.
