Rosie Boycott, Chair of London Food, was joined by top London chef Oliver Rowe, to launch a new Recycle for London recipe campaign designed to help cut London’s food waste mountain by creating tasty dishes with commonly ‘leftover’ food. Rosie and Oliver cooked a recipe using ingredients that often get forgotten and chucked in the bin.

With a third of London’s food currently being thrown away, top chefs such as Gary Rhodes, High Fearnley Whittingstall and Thomasina Miers have joined the cause to trim our bins by providing a range of mouth-watering recipes including potato mash lemon cake and bacon soup. All of these recipes are featured on the Recycle for London website.

As Recycle for London’s Evil Bin character makes an unwelcome return, urging people to give him their waste, Londoners will be encouraged to contribute their own top tips for making food go further.

UK households throw away a whopping 6.7 million tonnes of food waste every year with many items able to be used in easy recipes. By chucking away less food into the capital’s bins and planning more of our meals ahead, Londoners can save money in leaner times, cut carbon carbon emissions and help filling up landfill with ‘waste’ that could be used for tasty and imaginative meals.
