Recycling collections from home

You can recycle all types of paper, food and drinks cans and plastic bottles in the orange sacks. Collections are made on the same day as the normal rubbish collection. Orange sacks for your recyclables are delivered free of charge on a quarterly basis.

If you live in a flat, orange bags are supplied every three months and eurobins are located next to the refuse bin compound in which you need to place your orange bags.

Kitchen food waste collections

This service is only available to flats in Marks Gate. Households are provided with kitchen bins and compostable bin liners. Kitchen waste including peelings, egg-shells and the ‘plate-scrapings’ including cooked meat, fish and gravy can be put in the bins. To find out more about the scheme:

Green garden waste collections

Nearly 70,000 households in the borough belong to an opt-in scheme for the collection of green garden waste, which is taken for composting. If you join Barking and Dagenham’s green garden-waste scheme, you can use biodegradable bags or a wheelie bin for grass cuttings, leaves, weeds, flowers, hedge trimmings and prunings. These are collected every two weeks, on the same day that your household rubbish is collected.

Special collections

If you have a piece of furniture, a fridge, cooker or similar item which is still in good condition check out the Reuse page to see if someone else can give it a home. Alternatively the Council can collect it for you.
