Recycling collections from home
Richmond collect recycleables from your home on a weekly basis. Residents are provided with a blue box for the collection of paper, magazines, newspaper, flattened cardboard, phone directories, junk mail and envelopes and a black box collection for glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cans, plastic bottles, aerosols and foil.
If you live in a flat (such as those living in a block of 8 or more flats, above a shop or with no cartilage) you may have access to communal recycling bins for paper, glass, cans, cardboard and plastic bottles.

Kitchen food waste collections
Richmond will collect food wate from you doorstep for composting. Two containers are provided to residents receiving this service, a small kitchen caddie, which can be stored in your kitchen and a larger kerbside container with a self-locking lid to transfer your kichen waste into for collection. It will be collected on the same day as your recycling collection and must be out for collection by 6am.
Cooked and uncooked food can be recycled in your brown kerbside food container including:
Meat, fish and bones
Bread, pasta and rice
Vegetable and fruit waste
Eggs and cheese
Tea bags
All cooked and raw foods
Coffee grounds and paper filters
You cannot use the food waste bin for:
Food cans and jars
Garden waste
Plastic bags - please don't use them as liners
Pet faeces
Human faeces
Nappies
Plastic/synthetic coffee filters

Green garden waste collections
Richmond offer an opt-in fortnightly collection service of household green garden waste from outside your home. To be eligible for the service, you green garden waste needs to be in either a compostable sack or a green-wheeled bin. They offer a choice of container so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
You can put the following into your sack or wheeled bin:
Grass cuttings
Leaves
Twigs
Hedge trimmings
Garden prunings
Weeds
Plants
Flowers
Fallen fruit
Please DO NOT put these items in your sack or wheeled bin:
Stone
Rubble
Gravel
Soil
Wood
Meat and fish
Food
Dog and Cat waste and litter
Paper
Card
Plastic
Cans
BBQ ash

Local street recycling banks

Special collections
If you have a piece of furniture, a fridge, cooker or similar item which is still in good condition check out the Reuse page to see if someone else can give it a home. Alternatively the Council can collect it for you. This service is by appointment only and there is a charge for collecting these items. For more information or to book a collection:
